AVATAR
A DIY label from the East
Midlands. An EP by The Lion, 'He's A Man'(RSL-130), appears to have
been Avatar's only release. The catalogue number was taken from the
RSL-100 series which was used by Rainbow / Rainbow Sound studios, of
Nottingham. There's no date on the label, but RSL-116 came out in
1978, and the date of RSL-131 - 'Bingo', by The Escorts - is given as 1979 and
1980 in different sources, 1979 seems not impossible. The record
itself is somewhat schizophrenic: the 'A' side is sparse, almost Indie-sounding,
a tiny bit reminiscent of The Pretenders, while the two tracks on the 'B' are
Christian Rock, the first with Psych overtones, the second quite heavy.
