BARLEYCORN

Seemingly a one-off label, either a small independent or a DIY concern.  According to 'Music Master' Barleycorn released a single by Folk / Rock band the Peelers, 'Broken Down Squatter' (BAC-001), in October 1979.  The band had previously made an LP for Polydor ('Banished Misfortune'; 1972 - reissued in Ireland on Dolphin in 1980), and it went on to put out four more singles in the early '80s: 'The Wind In The Willows' b/w 'Sweet Memories' on Masquerade (MASQ-1; 11/82); 'John O' Dreams' b/w Fair And Tender Beauty' on Afterhours (AFT-11; 6/83); 'John O' Dreams' b/w 'Dicey Reilly' on Priority (P-7; 11/83); and 'The Dodger' b/w 'Fair And Tender Beauty' on Etude (DODGE-1; 9/84).  Pressing of the Barleycorn single was by Lyntone, and it had the matrix numbers LYN-7291/92.  Distribution was by I&B, whom I believe usually dealt in Irish imports.  There was another Barleycorn label around in the late '70s and early '80s, but the label design was different to this one and it seems to have only issued LPs, all of them by the Cambridge Crofters.  The Crofters did play some Irish material, but as yet I haven't found any evidence that would link that Barleycorn to this one.  Thanks to Fokeman of the 45cat site for permission to use his scan here.
