CAM (2)
The second Cam label to issue records in the 1970s dealt
in Reggae. It issued at least three 12" singles during the
period 1978-c.80, two of which were produced by Danny Campbell, whom I
assume owned the label and gave it part of his surname; they were numbered
in the CAM-1200s. It seems to have released just the one 7" single,
the one shown above, 'No Lies' by Holly B. (CAM-7001; 1979), which has been
described as sounding like 'Lene Lovitch on a tropical island'.
Somebody somewhere must have liked that record, as it was picked up and
re-released by (or re-recorded for) Pye in 1980. Thanks to Robin
Wills for the scan and for bringing the label to my attention. I had
to tweak the scan slightly, which accounts for some of the lettering on the
right hand side being missing. The positioning of the artist's name
and the titles means that dinking the single for use in jukeboxes would have
removed both, which seems slightly odd.
