CAROUSEL (1)
The first of two Carousel labels from the 1970s. There
seems to have been just the two releases on this particular Carousel, 'Sex
Change Sadie' b/w 'It's My Life' by Honeycombak (CAR-1) and Gene Young's 'Halfway
To Paradise' (SRT/CAR-2). There were no dates on either label, but 'Sadie' is
listed on the Releases page for Music Week of the
16th of March 1974. The label belonged to Martin Murray, who achieved fame in the
'60s as a founder-member of The Honeycombs and who produced both singles. He went on
to run the Stardust label (q.v.) in the late '70s and
early '80s. Carousel appears to have had a close relationship with SRT
(q.v.); indeed the label design resembles that of one of those used by
that company. More information, and a sound clip of the single, can
be found on the Purepop
site of Robin Wills, who was kind enough to supply the scan and to bring the
label to my attention. Thanks to Oliver Tooley for letting me know
that the Gene Young single exists.
