CASTLE (CSS prefix)

There were at least three Castle labels in the 1970s.   The earliest one dated from 1975, and, if the catalogue number of the only one of its records that I have ever seen was anything to go by, it ran to at least three releases.  The record in question was a single, 'Bargain Store' b/w 'Cumbernauld Winchers', by Edible Pear (CSS-1003; 1975).  It can be found with rather plain mid-blue or black labels, both with silver printing.  Stephen Small has kindly supplied the information that Edible Pear were from Edinburgh, and he suggests that Castle may well have been from there also, 'Castle' being an obvious sort of name for a label from that city.  The layout of the label is certainly very reminiscent of the design used by Craighall Studios (q.v.) of that city.  As can be seen from the scan, Edible Pear were a 'pair' consisting of 'Eddie' (Winship) and 'Bill' (Scott); thus their name.  If anybody knows what CSS-1001 and 1002 were, Stephen and I would be glad to hear from them.
