CC / COUNTRY KIN
For a start, this label probably was not called
'CC'. The trouble is that neither the EP shown above, 'Introducing The
Country Kin Trio (CCEP-2; 1978), nor the picture sleeve in which it came give any indication of
which company was responsible for the recording. Therefore I have
been reduced to using the first two letters of the 'CCEP' prefix as an
identifier. Presumably there is at least a CCEP-1 out there somewhere, though there's
no sign of it online. In addition to the tracks shown above, the Country Kin EP
offered versions of 'We Must Have Been Out Of Our
Minds' and 'Some Broken Hearts Never Mend'. According to the
rear of the picture cover 'My Daddy's Country Farm' was the joint winner of Radio Manchester's 'Song-For-Country'
competition; it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that the prize
was the opportunity to make a record, that 'CC' stands for 'Country
Competition', and that the band responsible for the other joint winner made CCEP-1,
but that's pure guesswork. The layout of the label was similar to that
used by Country specialist label Westwood (q.v.) among others, but that
may be just a coincidence. The Country Kin EP was
produced by George Byrne. If by any faint chance he reads this and can
tell me what 'CC' stood for, I'd be glad to hear from him.
