CHANCE
A small independent label, based in Margate. Chance issued four records
between 1970 and 1973; the common denominator in the all of them was singer /
guitarist Robin 'Robb' Wyatt, so it seems like a good bet that he was the
driving force behind the label. Only one of those records, the first, was
a seven-inch: it was a four-track solo EP by Wyatt, entitled 'Robb Wyatt At The Caribbean'.
Tracks on the EP were 'Adious Amour', 'The Worst That Could Happen', 'Cold
December' and 'Brand New Heartache'; it had a catalogue number of
CR-101, and came out in 1970. Three LPs followed, at the rate of one
per year. The first two were by The Bigwoods, a trio featuring Wyatt
with Bobby and Anne Bigwood. 'The Bigwoods - Live', from 1971, was
BAR-101, while 1972's 'Paradise Beach' was BAR-102. At that point Wyatt
seems to have left the band; both albums were reissued on the Phase II label,
which released a couple of subsequent Bigwoods albums. Wyatt appears to
have kept the 'Chance Records' name, as an album featuring him and the other
members of a show called 'Way Out West' was released in 1973 as CR-102.
That seems to have been the final Chance. Robin Wyatt was a member of The
Lower Third, but left before David Jones / David Bowie joined them. Thanks
to Sam Mauger for the scan and for bringing the label to my attention.
