CHANCERY
One of those Google-resistant labels
which came and went, around the end of the '70s. According to Music
Master, Chancery issued the single shown above, 'Operator' b/w 'Bounce Right
Back', by Heartbeat, in July 1979. Despite the evidence of its
catalogue number, CH-42, I find it hard to believe that there were forty-one
other Chancery singles and that they've all disappeared without trace; nor does
the number fit into any sequence that I've happened upon. I can only
assume that the numbers started and ended at CH-42 for some
reason. As for the music on the record: the 'A' side is
country-tinged religious Disco Pop with female vocals; the 'B' side,
which has male vocals, is an insistent and quite hooky Pop song - it's a
pity that it's mono and it sounds as though it was recorded in somebody's front
room. Be that as it may; pressing was by Lyntone, the matrix numbers being
LYN-6887/8, and distribution was by H. R. Taylor.
