CHANTELLS
A product of Beck
Stdios, of Wellingborough. and presumably a private pressing; the markings in
the run-off say that manufacture was by
Deroy. The only record I have seen on the Chantells label -
if indeed it is actually a label - is the one
shown above, 'Kerry' by The Chantells, which was issued in 1977. The catalogue number was J.A.M.-001; the
'A' and 'M' of the prefix may reflect the fact that the record was arranged
by A. Kicks and M. Lock, though that begs the question
of who 'J' was. These Chantells weren't the Reggae group of that name; they seem to
have had a varied repertoire - 'Kerry' is a Soft Soul
sort of thing, while the 'B' side is a Glam-tinged version of the old Johnny
Preston hit 'Running Bear'. There must have been at least a couple of pressings as the
labels come in two different colours, yellow and blue.
