CONGO
A Reggae label and publishing concern, founded by Byron
Lye-Look. Congo issued just the one single in the 1970s, 'Nation
Fiddler', by Macca Bees (CO-1), which came out in 1977. For some
reason its second single, Jah Lion's, 'Melody for Negus' (COS-2), didn't appear
until 1983. That record had a differently coloured label - light blue
instead of red - and a slightly altered prefix. It is reported that
under its later names of Kongo and Kongo Music the company featured prominently
on the Black Music scene of the '80s and '90s. Thanks to Robert Bowes
for the illustration.
