COUNTRY GROOVE
A small independent label from 1976. Country Groove appears
to have issued just the one record, 'Sweet Becky Walker' by Mack Allen
Smith. Its catalogue number was CG-100. Smith first
recorded for the legendary 'Sun' label, in 1959; the two songs on this single
are in the Country style and were made for the American 'Delta Sound' company in
the early '70s. Presumably an enthusiast licensed them for release
over here. Pressing was by Phonogram. The layout of the
label bears a strong resemblance to an ephemeral Rockabilly label, Red Neck
(q.v.), with the same font being used for the logo. It would be
reasonable to guess that the same person was behind both labels.
