CRAIGIE COLLEGE LANGUAGE PROJECT
Craigie College Language Project records were an example of the kind
of records that are included with other materials - books, courses and so on
- rather than sold by themselves. Craigie College was in Ayr. Its Language
Project ran from 1969-73, and the report of the project's findings
was published in 1975. Apparently the project was intended to
study the effects of what happens when children's work in language is in
the context of 'centres of interest' rather than that of reading books. Presumably there were several
such 'centres of interest', 'The Sea' and 'Underground'
being two of them, but Google fails to reveal any details of them. The
teacher's package for 'The Sea' included four topic books, four
work books, assignment cards, colour slides and a gramophone record; the record
featured poetry and music, as well as comments upon the subject by school children. The
whole lot was published by Holmes McDougall, of Edinburgh,
in 1972. The PC-000 catalogue numbering would appear to be that
of Procaudio Ltd (q.v.), who seem to have specialized in spoken word / sound
effect kinds of records. Thanks to Steve Hill for bringing the label
to my attention and for providing the second scan.
