ELEVATOR
Purportedly
a one-off Punk label. Elevator issued an EP, 'Mechanical
Man', supposedly by Mechanical Man, in 1978. The catalogue number
was NICE-1, and it seems to have been the label's only release.
'Mechanical Man' were really American 'Punk' band Devo, and it appears that
the four tracks on the EP were early demos by that band which Virgin
Records put out as a kind of pretend bootleg. The picture
sleeves credited Devo, whereas the labels do not. The scan was taken from
an old e-bay auction.
