Basically a Blues / Jazz label, specializing in reissues but with contemporary material on its catalogue as well. Flyright was based in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex. It was reportedly a joint venture between Blues authority Mike Leadbitter, Bruce Bastin and Simon Napier-Bell. It began issuing records in or around 1969, and is still in operation today as part of Bastin's 'Interstate Music' company. The vast majority of its issues were LPs (later CDs) but it managed at least five 7" releases during the period 1975-80. Four were singles; these were numbered in the 45-000s, on one occasion prefixed with a 'FLY'. The fifth was a Various Artists EP of Negro folk tales, 'John And Old Master'; that had a catalogue number of FLY EP-01. None are commonly met with. 'Skinny Kid' b/w 'Cobra' (FLY 45-003; 1975) was by a Rock band called Stallion, and was thus a departure from the company's usual genres. 45-005 featured a couple of late '70s Rockabilly items by Bill Jenkins; it had an American-style label with a large spindle hole and was coloured pale blue instead of yellow. There is no date on it, but as the 'B' side was recorded in 1979 and both tracks feature on a Various Artists album that was released in 1980 ('Get With It'; LP-556), 1980 seems like a reasonable bet. As yet I haven't managed to track down 45-004, if there was one. Thanks to Stephen Small for bringing Flyright to my attention.
