FOLK ON THE FRINGE '76
An
obscure offering from North of the border. 'Folk On The Fringe '76' may
well have been the name of the EP rather than the label, but it
will have to do as a means of identification because the label has no
other name on it. The band responsible for the record was Mannfolk
with Gill McLean; the tracks on it were 'Bobby', 'Dream Angus', 'Ma Burd's A
Teuchter' and 'Fhir a Bhata'. The catalogue number, CS-7252, belongs to a
block used by Craighall Studios, of Edinburgh; see 'TD / Craighall' for
other examples. As can be seen from the scan, the label bore a family
resemblance to the other Craighall Studios labels, such as Mayfair and JD (q.v.
both). The style of the pressing marks suggests that Linguaphone were responsible for
manufacture. Presumably the EP was on sale not long after the
1976 Edinburgh Festival. The Mannfolk made another appearance at the
Fringe in 1977 and made another record, which came out on the Osprey label
(q.v.) in that same year.
