FRIED EGG

A Post-Punk / Art-Punk label from Sound Conception studios of Bristol, Fried Egg issued at least twelve singles during the period 1979-81, using an EGG-000 numerical series.  'Music Week' of the 2nd of June 1979 gives the names of the people behind the label as Chris David, Ken Wheeler and Andy Leighton, and says that the plan was to "Release Bristol's cream from the West Coast scene" each month.  Distribution was via independents such as Pinnacle.  At least two other companies used a picture of a fried egg on their label: Spiegelei (from Germany) c.1972, and Concord (q.v.) c.1973.  The Wings single, 'Old Siam Sir', on Parlophone (R-6026; 1979) did likewise.  What the attraction was, goodness only knows.
