GAYFEET
A Reggae label; part of
the Trojan group. Gayfeet was intended for Sylvia Pottinger
productions, as was its sister-label High Note (q.v.). It
issued twelve singles, the first seven from 1969-70, the
last five when the label was revived briefly in 1973. Numbering was in a GS-200
series; for some reason a couple of the numbers, GS-207 and GS-208,
were used twice, once in
1970 and once in 1973. Two kinds of label were
used: a plain one dark-red one with silver printing and
the name in italics at the top for the first five releases, and one with a footprint
design for the later ones. Judy Mowatt's 'Emergency Call (GS-207; 1973) can also
be found with labels in one of Trojan's cut-price basic-looking black-printing-on-white-formats. The text
'Made in England' appeared on records from the 1973 revival.
Manufacture seems to have been generally by Orlake, as it was
for most of Trojan's products at the
time. Thanks to Charlie Chalk of the 45cat site
for the scan of the red label.
