GOLDEN MELODIES

A sub-label of United Artists, dedicated to reissues.  According to an article in 'Music Week' of the 12th of April 1975 which announced the launch of the 'Golden Melodies' series, the label was to feature middle-of-the-road material and the intention was to release one single per month; records by Tommy Garrett, the Johnny Mann Singers, Julie London, Vikki Carr and Martin Denny were 'probable' but there would be no material by current UA artists.  For some reason, however, the 'Golden Melodies' project seems to have been abandoned after just three issues: 'Hurt' b/w 'Just Say I Love Him' by Timi Yuro (UP-35798; 4/75); the Highwaymen's 'Michael' b/w 'Whiskey In The Jar' (UP-35849; 5/75); and 'Cry Me A River' b/w 'Come On-A My House' by Julie London (UP-35842; 7/75).  Their catalogue numbers belong to the main United Artists series.  As can be seen, there was one release each in April, May and July, which raises the quesion of what happened to June's release.  Demo copies were marked with a small 'A' and the appropriate text (2).
