GOLDEN SPHINX
American, out of New York City. Golden Sphinx belonged to
Rock musician and producer Curtis Knight. It had quite a long life in
its native land, but seems to have issued just the one single in
Britain. Pure Hell's 'These Boots Are Made For Walking' (GSX-002;
8/79) attracted some attention: the band, which was based in Philadelphia, is
reputed to have been the first all-black Punk group, though the American and
British ideas of Punk Rock were somewhat different. The catalogue
number is the same as that of the American issue. Distribution over
here was by Spartan.
