G & G ELECTRONICS
The label of the G&G Electronics music shop and studios, of 26
James Street, Garston, Liverpool 19. The man behind the studio, and presumably
the label, was musician Tony Gaskell. To judge by the only example of its products that I have ever seen, an
EP by The Blacks featuring 'Then I Kissed Her' and several other tracks (G/G-1114;
1975), G&G appears to have been a custom recording company. The catalogue number of that EP
suggests that there should be at least thirteen other
G&G records out there, but, unsurprisingly, googling
hasn't revealed any of them. Local Country music label C.M.P. (q.v.) made
at least a couple of EPs through G&G, using similar catalogue numbers. Pressing
of the Blacks EP was by Phonodisc; it ran to at
least two pressings, and came in two different colours -
I would guess that the first pressing was the red one, which had to have the
'33' rpm handwritten on it. Thanks to Robert Bowes for bringing the
label to my attention and supplying the red scan.
