HIGH NOTE

A Reggae label; part of the Trojan group, in Britain.  High Note operated from 1968 to 1972 over here, though it enjoyed a longer life in Jamaica.  It was a vehicle for Sylvia Pottinger productions, as was the Gayfeet label (q.v.).   Singles were numbered in a HS-000 series; HS-001 had the label's name as 'Hinote' in a lower-case font and lacked the logo, but from HS-002 onwards the label design remained basically the same as those shown above, with the occasional exception.  The text 'Made in England' appeared on the labels from February 1971 onwards (2), beginning with HS-052; the rest of the Trojan labels adopted it over the course of the subsequent few months.  The discography below only covers issues from the '70s.  Thanks to John Timmis for the first scan.
