KERREL

First things first: the picture of the paper label is a fake, albeit a pretty accurate one.  I don't particularly like having such things on this site, but in the case of some rare records it's a choice between that or nothing; so here it is.  The second picture is bona fide, and appears by courtesy of Dr. Doom of the 45cat site.  Kerrel appears to have been a DIY concern, run by Bill / Billy Matthews - he was responsible for the only two releases that I have so far been able to track down on that label.  One of them, an EP featuring 'Mona Lisa', 'Morning Has Broken', 'Heard It Through The Grapevine' and a medley 'Smile / Ipanema' was made through Deroy Records, which makes it of interest to collectors of that company's products.  Its catalogue number was DER-1411, and it came out in 1978.  The other was a single, 'Axe-I-Dent' b/w 'Engraved', which had a catalogue number of WM-38 and was undated.  Presumably the 'WM' part was Billy's initials; what the '38' indicated is anybody's guess.  The single looks early '80s to me, but it's unusual enough for me to justify slipping it in here.  Thanks to Dr. Doom for the use of his scan.
