K & B

A Reggae label, owned by Buster Pearson  'K & B' started out in 1974 issuing singles in a KB-5510 series which reached KB-5541 in 1977.  It used four different basic label designs during its lifetime.  These designs came in a variety of colours, some of which are not very legible.  The blue 'grid' design (1) was used for the first three singles; it turned yellow (2) for the next three.  A boxed logo followed, in grey-blue on white (3) for KB-5517 and 5518, and in pink-on-white thereafter (4).  The inverted triangle logo seems to have made its first appearance with KB-5521 (5) and, in silver on various shades of blue or green, lasted until KB-5528, when the font used in it changed (8).  For KBs 5533 to 5539 the colours switched to purple-on-pale-fawn and the credits migrated to different positions on the label (10).  Lastly, for the final two releases, the titles joined the artists at 9 o'clock and the catalogue numbers migrated to 2 o'clock, a more logical arrangement than the previous one.  Some singles, presumably popular ones, can be found with different types of labels because of re-pressings.  The few K&B singles that I have seen in the vinyl were manufactured by Lyntone, Orlake or Linguaphone; distribution was by Black Wax for at least part of the label's existence.  Every scan except the first, fourth, fifth and seventh appears by courtesy of Robert Bowes.
