METEOR
An Irish Country
label, owned by the managing director of Release Records (q.v.) Mick
Clerkin. Meteor's principal address was at 5/6 Lombard Street,
Dublin, but according to 'Music Week' of the 8th of January 1978 it also had
offices in London - at
240a-242a Kilburn High Road - and Nashville. The article says that the
company was looking for UK distribution, and an advert
from the 25th of February shows that it had found it: the label
was being handled by Lightning in London and the South, Wynd Up in
the North of England and Clyde Factors in Scotland, as well as
by importers Sean-nos. Despite the fact that its records were pressed in
Ireland possession of a UK office and UK distribution on that
scale are enough for me to grant it a place on this site,
as the vast majority of Irish labels had neither. As
well as the singles listed below there were four albums by the likes
of The Stonemans and Randy Parton. There's no trace of a SKY-502 on the
internet or in the 'Music Master' catalogue, so if a
record was allotted that number it may well not have
been issued. Thanks to Neil Thompson for bringing Meteor to my
attention.
