MODELLO
The label of
Modello Sound Studios, of Eardisley, Herefordshire. Modello appears to have been
a custom recording concern. It issued records in 1979 and
1980, mainly using an MHMS-100 numerical series. So far I have only
managed to track down eight MHMSes from 136 to 196; the huge gaps suggest that
the numerical part may have been shared with another label or labels,
or perhaps that the missing numbers weren't used. Of Modello's three
releases from 1979 two were LPs, but it earned itself a place on this site by
also putting out a single, Compass's 'Don't Let The Sun Catch You
Crying' b/w 'Stepping Stone' (MHMS-136; 4/79). Five other 7" records followed in
1980, one on the Wicker Monkey label, one on Rock Records (q.v.) and three on
Modello itself. One label design served throughout but it came in three colour
schemes: as well as the two shown above there was
a silver-on-black version. The records were often made through Ellie Jay (q.v.), which
led to them having EJSP-9000 numbers as well as their MHMS ones.
Information about any other Modello records would be welcome. Thanks to Steve
Brady for permission to use the first scan here.
