NOTCH

Presumably a DIY label.  A single by Uptown Traffic, 'Thinking' b/w 'That's The Way' seems to have been Notch's sole release.  Its catalogue number, YRS-120, indicates that it was made through Yarmouth Sound Recordings (q.v.), of Scratby, and the label had the same plain, functional layout as that of the Yarmouth Sound Recordings label.  There was no date on the single but comparison with other Yarmouth records suggests that c.1975 would be a reasonable guess.  The style of the matrix number of suggests that it was cut by Orlake, but it doesn't look like an Orlake pressing; it bears a strong resemblance to several records manufactured by the Allied Pressing Co, a plant associated with Yarmouth Recording Studios  - perhaps Orlake cut the master and Allied did the pressing?  See 'Emmex' and 'Coastal Music Studios' for other examples.
