PEAR
A small independent
label. Pear received its only 'Music Week' mention in the edition of the
4th of November 1978. The
article said that the label had been founded by former EMI men Alan
Cole and Andrew Ormston, and that it was based in Stockton-on-Tees.
Its first release, which was due out in December, was to be by a local
band, Border; distribution was 'in the pipeline'. A maxi-single containing 'Song For J.', 'Easy' and
'Going Away' duly emerged, though there may have been some delay - according to
'Music Master' it came out in May 1979 rather than December 1978. It may perhaps be that the attempts to
find a distributor had come to nothing, as 'MM' gives distribution as being by
Pear itself. The matrix number in the run-off, IS/PEAR-1030, indicates that the record
was made through Impulse Studios; see 'Wudwink'. The music
on the record is fairly straight-forward Rock-Pop, with a guitar instrumental as one
of the tracks on the 'B'-side. Sadly there seem to have been no
other Pear releases.
