PLEXIUM
A label from the late
'60s and early '70s, owned by Gordon Lotinga. Plexium apparently
issued a number of singles which are of interest to collectors of Psychedelia,
examples
being the records by Freedom, The Glass Opening and Keith Dangerfield,
but it is most often met with nowadays - if
'often' is the word - in the form of its Easy
Listening LPs. The first issues came out in 1968 and were numbered from P-1234 onwards,
for some reason. The numbering changed to PXM-0 in 1969, perhaps with a change of distributors -
the PXMs were linked to Transatlantic and were manufactured and distributed by EMI. Early
labels, including the 'P-1000' series, were dark blue with
silver printing (1); the colours changed to black on red at PXM-15. By
the time PXM-17 came out the old design had been
replaced by an orange one with a cherub on it. Intermittently, Plexium singles of both
types had a small 'A' on the appropriate side, along with the track
time (2); the rest didn't (3). The company seems to have ceased trading in
1973, at which point the numbers had reached PXM-32. Thanks to John
Timmis for the second scan.
