PLUM (PIP prefix)
The first of two Plums to
appear in the '70s was a Reggae label. It seems to have issued just
the one record, Arthur Louis's version of the Bob Dylan song 'Knocking On
Heaven's Door' b/w 'Plum' (PIP-001; 1975), which was reissued on the Island
label as WIP-6448 in 1978. An album's worth of material was recorded
and was released on Polydor in Japan, but it only saw the light of day here in 1988, on PRT. Both the single and
the album featured Eric Clapton, who had a hit with his
own version of 'Knocking On Heaven's Door' not long after the Arthur Louis
version came out. Manufacture seems to have been by Linguaphone. Thanks to Tony
Dowsett for the scan of the company sleeve - the 'flap' opening of that sleeve
is novel.
