SEA CRUISE
American, out of St.
Louis; owned by Ken Keene and Frankie Ford. In May 1974 'Billboard'
magazine reported that Sea Cruise Productions had signed a contract with Terry
Waghorne, the managing director of UK company Southern Sound (q.v.)
for product from its Briarmeade label to be released here, under the
Sea Cruise banner. The article said that the first fruits of the agreement
were to be tracks by Frankie Ford, Al Jordan, Billy Joe Duniven, Pallardy &
Hawkins, Etta Cox and Jimmy Ward & The Streakers, along with old material by
Narvel Felts. The records were to have the Sea Cruise logo on them, and
would bear the designation Sea Cruise Productions (UK). In the event,
however, Southern Sound appears not to have survived into 1975 and a
British-recorded maxi-single by Bradford-based Rock 'n' Roll band the Dave Lee
Sound seems to have been Sea Cruise's only release. The tracks
featured on the single were 'Say Mama', 'Hearts Of Stone'
and 'Two Hearts In Lipstick', and its
catalogue number was SCDL-100. The band made a couple of albums: one for Southern Sound, 'The Dave Lee Sound Play Rock 'n' Roll Requests' (SSLP-401), and
what appears to be a self-financed one on the Throstle Nest
label, 'Carry On' (TN-001; 1975). Pianist Dave Lee earned
a name for himself as 'The British Jerry Lee Lewis'. Thanks to Hawkmarty of
