SHAW SAVILL LINE

The Shaw Savill Line was a shipping company, the origins of which dated back to the 1880s.  From the mid 1950s until c.1973 it ran round-the-world cruises.  Presumably Barry Goud was responsible for providing musical entertainment upon one of the company's ships, for Shaw Savill made an EP featuring six tracks by him; I would assume that it was intended as a souvenir for passengers.  As well as the three tracks which can be seen on the scan the EP offered versions of 'A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening', 'Somewhere My Love' and 'Blaze Away'.  The catalogue number, SPE-13, was one of a series used by Micon Records, of Colchester.  There's no date on the labels but SP-12 came out in 1971 so it seems likely that SPE-13 is from the same year or possibly the year after that.  Micon also produced a similar EP for another shipping line, Union-Castle (q.v).  See also 'Drum Major'.  Thanks to Nicholas Hough for bringing the label to my attention and for providing the illustration.
