SHERWOOD
A small independent label from Nottingham. A single by
Stuart Stevens, 'Nottingham City' b/w 'Don't Say Goodbye', appears to have been
Sherwood's only release. There was no date on its labels but the pressing
marks are typical of Orlake pressings from 1978. It had a catalogue number
of SFI-29H, which may have been a misprint - the SFI prefix suggests that it was
made through custom pressing firm Sound For Industry (q.v.), and a number in the
290s would fit in with that company's matrix numbers for 1977-78. Stuart
Stevens was behind another Nottingham-based label, Eagle: see 'Eagle (EGL prefix)'. There was
a company called Sherwood Records Limited, which was run by John Norwell and
which issued a handful of records in 1966; it was still active in 1978 as a
publishing company but the two don't appear to have had any connection. Thanks to Hawkmarty of the 45Cat
