SWAN (S prefix)
This Swan, the first of two in the 1970s, was
originally American; it was based in Philadelphia, and it issued records
from 1957-c.67. The British version came and went
during 1976, and issued just two singles: 'Spy' b/w 'Jammin' by The
Guys From UNCLE (S-4240), and The Modern Redcaps' 'Golden Teardrops' b/w 'Never Too Young' (S-4243).
Both were originally issued on Swan in the
USA with those numbers, and both were reissued over here as part
of the Northern Soul boom of the mid / late '70s. The company responsible for
them was Global Records, of Manchester, whose USA associate had purchased Swan's catalogue in
1975. Global made another, slightly more prolific, foray into the Northern Soul reissues market
with its Cream label (see 'Cream - CRM prefix'). Pressing of the example
shown above was by Orlake.
