TARGET (1)

This particular Target label was Irish in origin, and for the most part it was confined to the Irish Republic.  It was closely associated with Pye, and its singles shared Pye's 7N-17000 and 7N-45000 numerical series; many of them were released over here, but on the Pye label.  In the early '70s, however, several Target singles were pressed and issued in the UK by Shannon (q.v.).  Shannon were mainly importers of Irish records but during this period they licensed tracks from several Irish companies - Release, Play, Ruby and Target (q.v. all) - had them pressed here and gave them a UK release, using the original label names and generally keeping the original catalogues numbers.  It could be that in this case the original '7N' prefix had to be changed to 'TS' in order to avoid confusion with UK Pye singles, particularly as the records were being pressed by Pye.  Irish Target records had a striking yellow-and-black label; the first British label appears to have been of the same design but was coloured orange (1).  The copy shown above has had its missing centre 'replaced' via a paint program; for the purposes of replacing it I have assumed that the centre was the same as the Irish one - the assumption seems a reasonable one, but treat the scan with caution.  The third single had a plainer label (2).  The few British Target pressings that I have tracked down so far are listed below - release dates are from 'Record Retailer'.
