TAVERN
Tavern appears to have been a custom recording label. It
issued records from c.1973-c.1977; there were at least seventeen of them and a
lot of them were by popular Novelty group The Barron Knights. Most of
Tavern's releases were LPs, but there were at least a couple of seven-inchers:
an EP by Cabaret band Inspiration, 'Love Don't Grow On Trees' (STA-1004; 1973),
and a football single by The Barron Knights & The '74 Luton Town Squad,
'Hatters Hatters' (STA-1007; 1974). The label of the Luton Town
single was navy-blue-on-white rather than black-on-silver; the Inspiration EP
was pressed by Orlake. EP, single and albums shared the same STA-1000
numbering. In 1977 the Knights started recording for Epic and Tavern
disappeared, which suggests that Tavern may have belonged to the band: it may
have lost its raison d'etre when Epic came on the scene.
