TOM
CAT
American. Tom
Cat was owned by Tom Catalano, manager of Neil Diamond. During its
two-year lifespan in the States it issued records by the likes of Ronnie
Spector, Forrest McDonald and Sweetwater. Over here, however, it
appears to have managed only two releases: Marc Wirtz's, 'We Could Have Laughed
Forever', (YB-10359; 9/75), and 'One Fine Day' by Julie (Budd) (TOM-1; 2/76). The first seems
to have been issued with its American catalogue number; by
the time of the second Tom Cat had been given
a series of its own and a company sleeve (3). Tom Cat's only mention
in the Trade press came in 'Music Week' of the 13th of
September 1975, which carried an advert for the Marc Wirtz single;
the advert said that marketing was by RCA. Manufacture and distribution were also by RCA,
and demo copies were marked in that company's usual way (2).
