WILDFIRE CLUBLAND

Wildfire Records was a small independent company, or possibly a custom recording outlet, based in Washington, Tyne and Wear.  The few examples of its products that I have seen listed dated from 1977-80.  It specialized in EPs, which came in two separate series, each with its own distinct label design.  'Clubland' was the earlier, and more prolific, of the two.  Catalogue numbers of its 7" records were initially in the WRx-000s, where the 'x' was taken from the artists' name - an EP by Skytrain was WRS-009, one by David Hadrian WRH-004 - but at some point in 1978 the numbers seem to have jumped into the 20s. There was also an SEM-000 series, which appears to have a connection to Newcastle's Soundlink studios; see 'Wildfire'.  The only album I have tracked down - by Tuxedo Junction - was numbered WLP-001.  Jon Craig seems to have played a prominent part in the company, as he was involved in several of its productions as well as releasing an EP in his own name.  A number of these productions were 'for Wildfire Records' according to the labels, which suggests that Wildfire actually issued records rather than merely making them at the artists' expense.
