AGGROVATOR
A Reggae label, with
connections to producer Bunny Lee. The '70s version of Aggrovator managed
just a couple of records. The first was from 1976 and was a
pre-release only 7" of 'M.P.L.A.' by Tapper Zukie, which eventually surfaced on
the Klik label (q.v.); it was followed in 1977 by a proper release, 'Dread
Involved' by Jah Stitch. The Jah Stitch had a catalogue / matrix number of
BS-100; both singles had versions on the 'B' side. In both cases the
titles and artists were hand-stamped onto plain labels - Stitch's name was
misspelled - and the centres of the singles were cut out, presumably to give
them an authentic Jamaican look. Copies exist without hand-stamps and
with centres intact. Aggrovator made a belated reappearance in the UK from
2011 to 2013 and issued another nine singles during that period, using the
same basic label design but in various colours. Thanks to Charlie
Chalk of the 45cat site for the use of his scan here.
