ALLEMANDE

A
small independent label, based in Garrick Street, London. Allemande was
initially devoted to American Square Dancing. It issued four singles in
1977-78, all by a lady named Julia. They came
with a printed sheet giving instructions on how to do the dances, and they were
all produced by Eric Tomlinson. Numbering was in an A-000 series. An
album by the Mikron Theatre Company, featuring songs from 'I'd Go Back Tomorrow'
and 'What A Way To Go' (ALP-1001), came out in 1979 and broke the link with
dancing. That was co-produced by Tomlinson, who presumably was deeply
involved with Allemande; he went on to co-produce a couple more Mikron Theatre
Company albums in the early '80s, on the company's own label. A final
Allemande single, 'Wake up' b/w 'The Potato Song' by Carnival, came out in 1983
and was numbered A-010. It had a silver-on-black label of the usual
design. The only change in that design came when Julia's name grew in size
and moved to 9 o'clock, which happened with the second and subsequent singles
(2).
Pressing of the Julia records appears to have been by Linguaphone.
