A.S.M.

A DIY / small independent label.  A.S.M. seems to have issued just three singles, the first two of which were by Power Pop band The Features and the third by The Big Picture.  'Make Me Blue' b/w 'Don't Let Them Know' had a catalogue number of 'HIT-4-6'; there were no dates on its labels but the run-offs had Lyntone and Clubland matrix numbers of LYN-7428/29 and SJP-808 respectively, which allows us to date it to 1979.  'Monday-Friday' b/w 'Cue The Next Army' (PET-1) followed in 1980, with The Big Picture's 'Too Late' b/w 'Living In A Dream' (ASM 3 BP-188) bringing up the rear in 1981.  A common thread between all three was Simon Maine, who had a writing credit on the first two and produced the third; it seems a reasonable bet that his initials provided at least the 'M' of the label name.  The scans come courtesy of Nicholas Hough.  Thanks to Steve of the specialist Punk / New Wave / Power Pop site Lowdownkids for bringing the second Features single to my attention.
