ATR
A small independent
concern, based in Bramhall, Stockport. ATR - Andrew Toms Recordings
- issued records in the 1970s and early '80s. It dealt mainly in
albums of organ music and choral works, but it managed at least one 7"
record: a Christmas EP, 'Sing Nowell - Carols Sung By Bradford Cathedral
Choir'. The EP had a catalogue number of ATR/ST/240-1, and its matrix
number, DER-942, indicates that it was made through custom recording / pressing
firm Deroy (q.v.). Tracks on it were 'There Is No Rose', 'Away In A
Manger', 'Dancing Day', 'Ding Dong Merrily', 'Nativity Carol' and 'Sussex
Carol'; they were recorded in July 1973 - during a heatwave, according to the
sleeve notes. Other Deroy numbers close to 942 confirm 1973 as the release
year. The labels appear to have been gummed over plain white ones; the gum
has discoloured badly over the years, which explains the speckled
appearance of the scan.
