AUSTIN

A one-off label from 1978.  Austin's sole release was an EP of eleven-year-old live recordings by '60s American Psychedelic band The Thirteenth Floor Elevators, who hailed from Austin, Texas.  The tracks on it were versions of 'Roll Over Beethoven', 'The Word', and 'You Really Got Me'; its catalogue number was RE-1, and it came out in October.  There appear to have been two pressings: one with yellow labels, the other with green.  There was considerable interest in the band at that point: Radar Records (q.v.) reissued their album ('The Psychedelic Sound Of The 13th Floor Elevators'; RAD-13) and a single, 'You're Gonna Miss Me' b/w 'Tried To Hide' (ADA-13; 10/78) at roughly the same time that this EP came out, and another of their tracks, 'She Lives (In A World Of Her Own)' featured on a promo-only Radar EP alongside tracks by The Red Crayola, The Golden Dawn, and Lost And Found (SAM-88; 1978).  Presumably the tracks on this live EP were licensed by an enthusiast.  Thanks to Sam Mauger for bringing Austin to my attention, and to JanieJJones of the 45cat site for permission to use her scan here.
