BASF CORNET
German: the fruit of an arrangement between Heinz Geitz's 'Cornet
Records' and chemical giant BASF. Cornet, which was based in Cologne, began
issuing records in 1966. Its agreement with BASF
started 1971 - 'Record Retailer' of the 5th of June reported that the two
companies had signed a licensing agreement - and lasted until the label ceased trading, which it did in 1977.
Cornet and BASF Cornet were far more prolific in their native land than
they were in Britain: the former didn't release any records over
here, while the latter appears to have managed just the one single, Freddy Breck's
'We Believe In Tomorrow' b/w 'Say It Stronger' (05 11600-4) which came out
in 1973. That single was pressed by CBS. BASF's own label (q.v.) made rather
more of an impression in this country, putting out around
seventeen singles and a fairly large number of LPs during the period
1972-76.
