BIG LEAGUE
A one-off label from 1972.
Big League's sole offering was a single coupling 'Up The Spurs' by The Cheers with an anonymous
piano-led instrumental version of John Brown's Body, rechristened 'Spurs Go Marching
On'. Its catalogue / matrix number was TC SP-1,
which looks very much as though the single was made through custom recording
firm TC Records (q.v.) of Polzeath. Pressing was by British Homophone. Tony Carr
wrote, directed and / or arranged both tracks, so it seems reasonable to
guess that he was the man behind the company. Helpfully the
labels give the name of the record's distributor: Sports Souvenirs, of High
Road, Tottenham. The single must have sold well enough to merit a couple
of pressings, as it can also be found with silver-on-pale-blue labels.
Thanks to Stephen Small for bringing Big League to my attention.
