BLAST FROM THE PAST
As its name suggests, Blast From The Past was an Oldies
label; it dealt in three-track, often 'various artists', reissues of
hits from the Rock 'n' Roll years. It was an offshoot of Creole
Records, and its singles shared a CR-100 series with those of its parent
company. It appears to have been active from 1979-c.82, though its
'80s records seem to have been re-promotions of the '70s ones. A
letter from a dealer in 'Music Week' of the 16th of December 1979 complained
that (many of?) the recordings in the Blast From The Past series were not
originals. Bruce White of Creole responded in the issue of the 12th
of January 1980, saying that the tracks were "Not advertised as original recordings,
nor has Creole ever suggested that they were.... They are [however]
by the original artists." Manufacture and distribution were by CBS; the
deep circular depression an inch or so from the spindle hole appears to be
characteristic of CBS products from the late '70s and early
'80s.
