BONSPIEL
Scottish. Bonspiel
- apparently it's the name given to a curling tournament - seems to have been a
family affair: all four of its records featured Mary Fleming, two in conjunction
with another Fleming, Robert. Three of those records were albums, but
happily from the point of view of this site there was also a solitary single, a
solo effort by Mary Fleming offering 'A' Bheart - Fhighe' and 'Caller
Herrin'' Its catalogue number was BS-1001 and it came out in 1977.
The deep bevel of the label and the narrow raised 'island' around the spindle
hole are typical of Linguaphone pressings. The albums on Bonspiel
were Mary Fleming's 'Weaving Lilt' (BS-101; 1976), and two by Robert
Fleming & Mary Fleming, 'Haydn And Scots' (BS-102; 1976) and 'Classical
Scots' (BS-103; 1977). Thanks to Stephen Small not only for letting me
know about Bonspiel but for providing practically all the information on
this page, as well as the scan.
