CAPITOL SOUL
A debatable one, I suppose, but as I've given Penny
Farthing's 'Trophy' and Spark's 'Northern Soul' series pages on the strength of
a mere overprint consistency demands that I do the same for Capitol's
'Capitol Soul' series. From the summer of 1975 into the autumn of 1976
Capitol gave a group identity to its Soul singles and marked them with a
'Capitol Soul' logo. A few of them got into the Charts: Natalie Cole's
'This Will be' b/w 'Joey' (CL-15834; 8/75) stalled outside the Top 30, but
subsequently Tavares reached the No.4 spot twice in succession with 'Heaven Must
Be Missing An Angel (Parts 1 & 2)' (CL-15876; 6/76) and 'Don't Take Away The
Music (Parts 1 & 2)' (CL-15886; 9/76). Tavares kept on having hits but
none of the others bore the Capitol Soul logo. Unsurprisingly
catalogue numbers were taken from the main Capitol series and demo copies were
marked in the usual Capitol fashion (2).
