CAROUSEL (2)

The
second Carousel label of the 1970s was a DIY affair. It seems to have
released just the one record, an EP by the Club / Cabaret band after which
it was named; the label indicates that they were the resident band at the Gaiety
Bar, Blackpool, at the time. Tracks on the EP were 'I Believe In
Music', 'Lyin' Eyes', 'Jambalaya' and 'Love Song', and the catalogue
number, MAG-0010, was taken from a series used by custom-recording
concern Magnum Recording Studios of Hyde, Cheshire - see 'Magnum (Custom)' for
other examples. Manufacture was by Phonodisc. There's no date
on the record but MAGs 0001 to 0009 all came out in 1975, so this one must be
from there or thereabouts. The songs are competently-executed cover
versions; Lesley Duncan's 'Love Song' receives a gentle treatment vaguely
reminiscent of the Moody Blues, elevating it above the usual Club / Cabaret
fare.
