CATHEDRAL (2)
The record label of Cathedral (Sound?) Studios, of Halsall,
Lancaster. By the look of the few of its products that I have seen listed, this Cathedral appears
to have been a vehicle for custom recordings. Its LPs and EPs
shared a CS LP-0/0 numerical series, with each side of a record having its
own number. The earliest date I have for a Cathedral record is for
CS LP-11/12, an album by members of the Ebenezer Congregational Church,
which came out in 1968. Presumably numbers started at CS LP-1/2,
in that year or the year before. Sadly there don't appear to have been
any dates on the labels, but sometimes years can be
gleaned from the sleeves. The label came in various colours, including red, yellow, white
in addition to shades of blue. An EP by Everett Garson, 'Both Sides
Of Everett Garson' (CS LP-153/154) had a label which was basically similar to
that of the Western Union EP shown above - thanks to
John Timmis for that scan - except that the Cathedral name was
missing. Records with the 'CS LP' numbering also appeared on other labels -
see 'Amazing' and 'Perky Pat'. The few Cathedral Sound records that I have
managed to trace are listed below; for the sake of interest I have included
LPs, which are in square brackets. I have yet to find one that
dates from the '80s, which suggests that the label may not have survived long into
that decade.
