CHILTERN SOUND

A somewhat short-lived label devoted to modern Jazz.  Chiltern Sound was based in Marlow, and was an offshoot of the record shop of the same name, owned by Michael Eagleton.  It seems to have issued only a handful of records.  Confirming a report in 'Music Week' of the 26th of August 1978, which said that the company specialized in 12" Jazz singles and had already had three of them out, most of them, including records by Barbara Thompson and by Lol Coxhill, were in the 12" single format, but there was one 7", 'Las Bicicletas' b/w 'Frog Dance' by The Johnny Rondo Trio, which was given a RONDO-1 catalogue number and is surprisingly melodic.  The label's years of operation were from 1977 to 1978; as for what year 'Las Bicycletas' came out, opinions on the net are divided between the two.  The article said that Chiltern Sound intended to widen its scope to include LPs, but it seems to have managed just one: 'Uneasy Peace' by Edge (CSLP-1; 1978),  Distribution of Chiltern Sound records was by JSU, Terry Blood and Lugton.
